We recently caught up with GM Patrick Stacy to talk about the new-look  Wolfpack basketball team, which just started summer workouts a few weeks ago. We asked him his thoughts on PG Preston Edmead. Here is what he had to say.

“Yeah, I mean he was awesome at Hofstra this year. I mean, Cruz Davis kind of got a lot of the attention, but Preston was kind of their engine offensively. Really, really quick first step, really bursty. Probably one of the best off-the-dribble shooters in the country. He shot 41% behind a ball screen this year, so someone that is always stressing the defense.”

Edmead averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game last season at Hofstra. He shot 40.1% from the field, 38.7% from three-point range, and 83.3% from the free-throw line. A pretty amazing stat line, but this will be his first full season at the ACC level, so obviously there will be room for improvement.

“You know, obviously, with all the shooting that we’ve put around him and have on the floor, the thought is, you know, to improve the finishing a little bit with the space would be kind of an area that we said he needs to develop. But someone that, you know, is really tough. You’re going to watch him get up in the ball, can get through a lot of screens. You know, just emphasizing putting on a little weight, getting stronger, containing it, and limiting ineffectiveness going to the basket.”

But Stacy isn’t expecting a big learning curve. In fact, he sees Edmead as an elite-level playmaker who, when hot, can chagne a game quick.

“Preston is someone who’s going to blow the roof off Lenovo. He’s going to score 30 in the game and they’re going to come back to back to back. He’s someone that can pull from very deep. He’s a really fun player.”

If that comes to fruition, you better believe Edmead will be a fan favorite here in Raleigh.

“There’s going to be a lot of kids that are trying to emulate Preston Edmeade this season for sure.”
