NC State (5-5/2-4) was clobbered by #15 Miami (8-2/4-2) 41-7 on the road this afternoon (Box Score). Here are some quick hits from the loss.

The Wolfpack lost by 34 points. The last time NC State lost by 34 points to an ACC opponent was in 2019, when #4 Clemson walloped the Pack by 45 points (55-10).

The Hurricanes accumulated 581 yards of offense. The last time the Wolfpack gave up that many yards was also in 2019, when UNC finished with 620 yards of total offense.

NC State couldn’t do anything on offense either, finishing with 149 yards of total offense, which is the lowest total of the year by 84 yards. The Wolfpack couldn’t rush or pass the ball. They rushed for 29 yards and threw for 120. Redshirt Sophomore Hollywood Smothers returned from injury, finishing with -2 yards on 7 carries.

After looking superhuman last week against Georgia Tech, Sophomore CJ Bailey played the worst game of his college career, completing 17 of 30 for 120 yards and 0 touchdowns, while throwing 2 interceptions. His passing efficiency rating on the day was 76.9, the lowest of his career.

One team was playing in desperation for a chance to make the College Football Playoff. The other team was playing for a bowl bid.

The bookmakers in Vegas picked the Pack to lose by 15.

I know a loss is a loss at the end of the day, and I know beating a Top-15 team on the road in Miami is not likely.

With that being said, this is the type of loss that is embarrassing.

There’s no other way to say it.
