NC State Men’s Soccer is Headed to the Final Four for the 1st Time Since 1990

NC State’s (15-2-4) Men’s Soccer team is headed back to the Final Four for the 1st time since 1990 after defeating Georgetown (14-4-4) 3-2 up in Washington D.C. this afternoon.

The first half was a goal fest, while no goals were scored in the second half.

The #15 seed Wolfpack were the first to put a goal in the net at the 5:07 mark, with Senior Taig Healy scoring off of a throw-in. Redshirt Junior Isaac Heffess threw it in, Junior Donavan Phillip headed it, and Healy secured the ball of of his chest, kicking it in with his left foot.

Senior Drew Lovelace scored off of a penalty kick at the 7:17 mark. Georgetown’s goalie blocked his penalty kick, but then scored off the deflection.

#7 seed Georgetown scored at the 34:01 mark, on a goal from Loukas Maroutsis.

Senior Carlos Santamaria scored on a penalty kick at the 35:44 mark, putting the Pack up 3-1.

One minute later, the Hoyas made it a 1-goal game.

NC State didn’t need a goal in the second half, but none were needed.

The Wolfpack is headed to the Final Four for the 2nd time in school history!

NC State’s 15 wins are the second most wins in program history.

The Wolfpack are the highest seeded team remaining in the Final Four. NC State will play Saint Louis, and #16 seed Furman will play Washington. Both games will be played on December 12th.

The Final Four will be played at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary right down the road, making it practically a home game for NC State.
