NC State defeated Saint Louis 2-1 in their first Final Four appearance since 1990, advancing to their first National Championship game in school history.

The Wolfpack scored both of their goals in less than a 4 minute span in the second half.

Junior Donavan Phillip scored off of a header at the 68:36 mark, scoring his 18th goal of the season, tying for the national lead.

Senior Taig Healy also scored off a header a few minutes later at the 72:04 mark. Healy said after the game that the last time he scored a game off a header was before he even started playing 11v11.

Saint Louis made things interesting as the game was inching towards the 90-minute mark, scoring on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the game.

The Wolfpack was able to hold on to their 1-goal lead, giving them a shot to win the first National Championship in school history on Monday night against Washington.

If Phillip scores a goal, it has next to guaranteed a victory for NC State this season. The Wolfpack is now 11-0-1 when the Junior sensation scores.

Heading into the NCAA Tournament, NC State hadn’t won a game when their opponent scored a goal, going 0-2-3 in those 5 games. The Wolfpack has now won back-to-back games when their opponent put the ball in the net.

What Marc Hubbard has managed to do in 2 years as NC State’s Head Coach is simply outstanding. In Year 1, the Wolfpack advanced to the Sweet 16, and now it will be playing for
