NC State running back Hollywood Smothers is transferring to Alabama.

ON3 ranks Smothers as the No. 29 overall player to enter the transfer portal and the No. 2 running back available.

Smothers finished the regular season with 939 rushing yards and six touchdowns, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also added 37 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown. His 37 catches ranked third on the team.

Through two seasons, Smothers posted a career yards-per-carry average of 6.1, which ranks first in NC State football history.

NC State Career Yards Per Carry Leaders

1. Hollywood Smothers (2024–25): 249 carries, 1,510 yards — 6.1
2. Zonovan Knight (2019–21): 419 carries, 2,286 yards — 5.46
3. Roland Hooks (1972–74): 251 carries, 1,368 yards — 5.45
4. Anthony Barbour (1988–90, 1991–92): 474 carries, 2,575 yards — 5.43
5. Nyheim Hines (2015–17): 258 carries, 1,399 yards — 5.42

Smothers earned First Team All-ACC honors this season.

NC State will now look to retain redshirt freshman Duke Scott, who rushed for 487 yards and four touchdowns this season while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. Scott also added 15 receptions for 132 yards.

Smothers finished the year just 61 yards shy of 1,000, and Scott appears capable of becoming a 1,000-yard rusher if given the opportunity in 2026.

At the end of the day, Smothers landed one of the top opportunities in college football, heading to Alabama with two years of eligibility remaining.

News also broke yesterday that Wolfpack Wide Receiver Terrell Anderson is transferring to USC.
