NC State phenom Donavan Phillip was recently awarded the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is annually given to the best player in college soccer, widely regarded as the sport’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

Phillip is the first NC State player to ever win the MAC Hermann Trophy.

Phillip’s 19 goals led the nation this season and tied for the fifth-most goals in a single season in NC State history. The last time a Wolfpack player scored 19 goals was 1984.

His 40 total points ranked fourth nationally and are tied for the fourth-most points in program history. The last time an NC State player recorded 40 points in a single season was 1991.

Phillip was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, capping off one of the most dominant individual seasons in program history.

Behind Phillip’s historic campaign, the Wolfpack produced the best season in school history, advancing to the program’s first-ever national championship match.

Following the dramatic loss in the national title game, Phillip alluded to the possibility of returning for his senior season. However, news broke today that he will forgo his final year of eligibility and pursue his professional career.
