Will Wade held his weekly radio show at The Pit in downtown Raleigh, last night.

When asked about Quadir Copeland, Wade didn’t hesitate to praise his point guard’s emergence, calling him one of the most unique players in the ACC. He went on to point to Copeland’s size at 6-foot-6, his ability to guard multiple positions, and the way he’s producing at an elite level nationally, ranking among the top 20 players in assists per game while shooting 48 percent from three. Wade noted that there are only a small number of players in the country averaging six or more assists, and Copeland’s combination of playmaking and versatility separates him from most point guards. “He’s massive for a point guard,” Wade said, adding that Copeland’s ability to switch onto frontcourt players, like he did against Clemson, highlights just how valuable he is on both ends of the floor.

Wade also reflected on Copeland’s journey and growth since arriving at NC State, emphasizing how important time and development were to his success. He explained that Copeland was able to work through mistakes early, refine his decision-making, and grow into his role in a way that may not have been possible at a high-major program right away. Wade praised his determination and willingness to invest in himself, including spending his own money to improve his shot, calling him a player who thrives on being challenged. “He’s done the work,” Wade said. “I’m very proud of him.” With coaches, NBA scouts, and opponents now taking notice, Wade believes Copeland’s rise is no fluke and expects him to continue playing at a high level.

In fact, Wade said in the preseason that two coaches came to watch practice and both left talking about him, with a high-level D1 coach telling Wade “Copeland is going to be the key to your team.”
