NC State sophomore wide receiver Teddy Hoffmann will miss the entire 2026 football season, serving a one-year suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The suspension stems from an NCAA rule violation, which carries an automatic one-calendar-year suspension, including one full season of competition.

Below is the official release from NC State.

NC State sophomore wide receiver Teddy Hoffmann will miss the 2026 season as he serves a one-year suspension for violating NCAA rules.

Hoffmann tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The positive test carries an automatic NCAA suspension of one calendar year, including one season of competition.

“Teddy made a mistake that he’s taken responsibility for in front of his teammates and coaches,” said Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren. “It’s an unfortunate reminder about the importance of always checking with the sports medicine staff before taking any type of medication or supplement to make sure it’s permitted. I know he will learn and grow from this experience.”

Hoffmann played in all 13 games last season as a true freshman, tallying 25 receptions for 359 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw for a 59-yard touchdown.

Major Loss for the Wolfpack

This is a huge loss for the Wolfpack.

With the spring transfer portal window no longer available, NC State is likely without any realistic opportunity to add another receiver this late in the offseason.

Even more concerning, Hoffmann was one of the few experienced targets returning for the offense.

With his suspension, NC State will now enter the 2026 season without its five leading receivers from last year.

Returning Production

Junior Keenan Jackson now becomes the leading returning wide receiver from last season.

As a sophomore, Jackson recorded:

• 28 receptions
• 281 receiving yards
• 2 touchdowns

Transfer Portal Additions

Fortunately, NC State added five wide receivers through the transfer portal this offseason:

• Redshirt Senior Victor Snow – Buffalo
• Senior Tyran Warren – Alcorn State
• Redshirt Junior Davion Dozier – Appalachian State
• Junior Joshisa Trader – Miami
• Redshirt Sophomore Chance Robinson – Miami

Bottom Line

No matter how you slice it, this is devastating news for the Wolfpack football program this spring.

Losing a young receiver who played every game as a true freshman and showed significant promise creates a major hole in the offense heading into the 2026 season.
