We told you yesterday that while you might be feeling down about the 1 point OT loss to #19 Kansas, NC State is still in a great spot.
They have played a super strong non-conference slate with almost every major team now within the Top-50. NC State has won two of those games (VCU, Boise St) and dropped 4 (#19 Kansas, #21 Auburn, Texas and Seton Hall.)
If you want to focus on wins and losses, that’s on you, but that’s simply not what matters to the Tournament Committee.
What you should be focused on are rankings by Bart Torvik, Ken Pom, and ESPN’s BPI (Basketball Power Index). These rankings put together everything the committee weighs and compiles it into a ranking.
Yesterday we showed you that State ranks within the Top 30 in Torvik and Ken Pom.
Today we take a look at the BPI, where despire losing to Kansas, NC State has risen 5 spots and is now ranked 24th.

How is this possible? It doesn’t feel right, does it?
Well, it is possible and this is what happens when you schedule a non-conference slate like NC State just did.
Look at ’21-’22. NC State was 117th in Torvik, but found themselves in the Big Dance by the end of the year.
This year we’re at 28th and there are literally people tweeting that Kansas was a must win and the season is now a wash.
You’ve been classically conditioned by the Keatts years where the scheduling was different and the ACC was weaker.
Again, NC State is fine.
If they don’t go on a pretty nice run here over the next week or two, then we can regroup and have a collective panic attack.
