Here is a brief NC State Football recruiting update from the past couple of days.

Diondre Overton to Decide January 3rd

4-star Wide Receiver Diondre Overton, out of Greensboro, North Carolina, told Scout’s Michael Clark that he is planning on making his college decision on January 3rd at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.  His Top 5 of NC State, Clemson, UNC, Nebraska, and Tennessee still holds strong.  He plans on taking official visits to all 5 of these schools.  Overton attended NC State’s game vs. Eastern Kentucky and had this to say to Clark:

“It was a good visit,” said the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Overton. “The game day atmosphere was great and the crowd was into it. I was able to watch their offense and how they distribute the ball.

“I spoke with coach (Dave) Doeren, (safeties) coach (Clayton) White and (wide receivers) coach (George) McDonald. They all encouraged me to run with the Pack and to get down there more. The visit helped give me a better feel for things there.” (Scout)

4-Star WR Darnell Salomon Plans NC State Official

4-Star WR Darnell Salomon told Scout’s Corey Bender that he plans on taking official visits to Miami, NC State, Louisville, and South Florida.  He also told Bender that Miami is his leader at this point.

Carlos Becker Plans Official Visit to NC State

3-star Safety Carlos Becker told Scout’s Corey Bender that he plans on taking official visits to NC State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and probably Florida State.

“I’m very interested in the Pack.  Riley Nicholson went to my high school,” said Becker. “Coach Barlow is a really good coach.”

Kelvin Harmon Talks Official Visit

3-Star 2016 Wide Receiver Kelvin Harmon took an official visit to NC State when the Wolfpack played Eastern Kentucky.  He had this to say about the visit to Scout’s Brian Dohn:

“I learned how important football is to the school and how important the players are to the coaches.  They told me how they need me, not want me, and how I’ll play (the) X (position), which is mostly single covered because of their running game success,” said Harmon. “Stephen Louis hosted me.  We just hung out with other players. They were saying how they love playing for the staff and they’re on the rise.” (Scout)

Harmon has one more official visit scheduled for September 26th at South Carolina, and hopes to drop by Rutgers which is close to home before making his official decision on October 1st.

NC State has already made quite the impression. They only offered him on April 24th. Getting an Official Visit scheduled a week after offering a player is a good sign.

When Pavey released his Top-8 back in February, NC State was obviously on the list. It consisted of Miami (OH), Toledo, Boston College, West Virginia, Pitt, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue. Wisconsin is also new to the scene, offering Pavey on April 21st.

As a Junior, Pavey had 46 tackles 7.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss.

All 4 recruiting databases rank Young as a Top-200 prospect nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, with ESPN, 247Sports and ON3 ranking him in the Top-35. 247Sports ranks him as the #29 overall player nationally, the #2 Safety and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

Published

on

4-Star 2025 Safety Jontae Gilbert (6’1″/180) confirmed with me that he has locked in an Official Visit to NC State for the weekend of September 27-29, and he plans for it to be his last Official Visit.

Back in July of 2022, Gilbert committed to Ohio St., but last July he decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Gilbert also has Official Visits scheduled for UCF, South Carolina and USC.

At one point, Gilbert was a 5-star prospect, but now he is a consensus 4-star prospect, and a consensus Top-275 player. Rivals ranks him as the #70 overall player nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, and the #8 player in the state of Georgia.

NC State offered Gilbert in April of last year.

Recently, he has taken unofficial visits to, or been visited by Louisville, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia St., Oregon, Clemson, Texas and South Carolina.

While he doesn’t have an Official Visit set up with Georgia, the Bulldogs are obviously a big player in Gilbert’s recruitment.

Gilbert plays for Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia.
