On Friday, NC State Head Coach Mark Gottfried and Assistant Coach Bobby Lutz went to Cox Mill High School (Charlotte, NC) to watch 2019 Shooting Guard Wendell Moore, and they offered the Top-10 a scholarship before they left.  I recently had the chance to talk to Moore about the experience and what an offer from NC State means.

“Coach Gottfried and Coach Lutz were both there to watch me workout and do 30-45 minutes of skill work,” said Moore. “We played a little bit and then Coach Gottfried gave me some tips on how I can improve my game.  He told me to work on dominating in all aspects.  Then he offered me a scholarship.”

Moore was first offered by UNC Charlotte, and then Tennessee followed suit.  NC State became the first ACC school to offer him, and being raised in ACC country, that means a lot.

“It’s wonderful.  The ACC is the particular conference that I would like to play in,” said Moore. “They are one of the most prestigious conferences with Duke, UNC, UVA, and NC State.  It feels great.”

NC State’s stop at Moore’s school wasn’t the first time they had reached out to the young star.

“I went down to NC State the day before CP3 camp, and they told me they were going to be in the gym watching me,” said Moore. “My coach told me a couple of weeks ago that they wanted me to come up for an unofficial visit, and that they were coming up to visit me.”

Moore is receiving more national attention than most players do at his age.  It can be a lot of pressure on a young man when USAToday says you might be the best 13-year old basketball player since Andrew Wiggins, but Moore is committed to keeping everything in perspective.

“It’s great, but as a basketball player you have to block it out,” said Moore. “You know the offers are coming, but you try not to be so focused on the offers.  You have to be humble and keep playing the game.”

This Saturday Moore will be in attendance at the Tailgate Tipoff this Saturday.
