Wolfpack Football Insider Recruiting Update 10/23

Published

on

Latest Recruiting News:

With Riley Nicholson’s retirement from football, we can now take another LB in this year’s class.
On that same note, Target 4* LB Eriq Gilyard is scheduled to announce on October 22nd.

Known LB Targets still left:

4* Keshon Artis
3* Fa’najae Gotay
3* Case Gatlin
4* Payton Wilson
4* Eriq Gilyard

Official Visitors Left:

11/4 – LB Keshon Artis
12/9 – WR/S/ATH Joe Wilkins Jr. (see video below)

I think Wilkins could be a steal in this class if we can get him to commit.  His recruitment is blowing up. His team is rated the #27 overall team in the country.

A fellow State fan posed a question to me after the Louisville Game: Who can take over for J-Sam as a multiple position kind of player in the future? Here’s my thoughts:

On Current Roster –

Damontay Rhem – He has the a similar size to J-Sam and was electric with the ball in his hands not only in the spring game but also on film at his prior school.  He is redshirting this year.   Dylan Parham – Converted QB who is playing some at FB/H Back this year.  He made an outstanding catch earlier this year and is used for blocking a lot this year.  He has great size and athleticism (6’4″) and could be a matchup nightmare if he can develop at his current position.

Future Players (2018 class) –

I’m going to go with Josiah Provillon or Daveon Robinson. Possibly add Joe Wilkins to this list if we can get him to commit.  Provillon has the greater speed, Robinson has great size (6’4″), and Wilkins just has tremendous athletic ability.

Recruiting Ranking Updates:
Commit DE Joe Babros was just evaluated by Scout.com and he is now the #35 SDE in the country, a very solid 3* (as I thought he would be).   He is also rated a mid-range 3* by Rivals.com.

Ritter’s Bold Predictions:
• We will MISS on:  4* LB Eriq Gilyard and he will wind up at Central Florida

• We will HIT on:  4* LB Payton Wilson, 4* LB Keshon Artis, 3* ATH Joe Wilkins, 4* OG Jovaughn Gwyn

• When evaluations are done after this season, we will have at least 6 4-star players in this cycle (Person, Leary, and Provillon are already 4* on at least one site).

PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star 2025 ATH Shawn Lee Jr. Breaks Down NC State Spring Game Experience

Published

on

3-Star 2025 Athlete Shawn Lee Jr. (5’10″/170) attended NC State’s Spring Game, and I caught up with him to get his thoughts on the experience.

What were your overall thoughts of the game? What excited you about the way this team played?

I think the game was good. It was competitive and the players definitely got after it. I also think they are building something great throughout the program.

Who stood out you from the game?

I think they have a very good young team. The receiver (Kevin) Concepcion is a dog and the Corner Aydan white, and the QB (CJ) Bailey stood out.

Did you get to interact with any of the players? Do you have any relationships with any of the Wolfpack players?

What were your interactions with the Coaches like?

Coach Mitchell and my family stayed and talked for a while and I also got to talk to coach Doeren. The coaches show nothing but love. I really had the chance to build a connection with coach Mitchell and it’s good. We stay in touch constantly!

_______

NC State offered Lee Jr. back on November 4th. He also holds offers from Kent St., Iowa St., UCONN, ODU and Akron.

Lee Jr. plays both sides of the ball for Harrisburg (Harrisburg, PA). This past season as a Junior, he completed 67% of his passes for 2,256 yards and 26 touchdowns (5 interceptions) as a Quarterback.  He also rushed the ball for 1,451 yards (8.9 yards per carry) and 19 touchdowns. On the defensive side, as a Cornerback he had 47 tackles, 4 interceptions and 7 pass breakups.

PI EXCLUSIVE: 3-Star QB Jayvon Gilmore Knows NC State is a “Very Good Spot”

Published

on

Last Saturday 2026 3-Star Quarterback Jayvon Gilmore (6’6″/195) was in attendance at NC State’s 2024 Spring Game. I caught up with him to get his thoughts.

What were your overall thoughts of the game? What excited you about the way this team played?

Amazing! With the offense scoring over 50 points in the Spring Game, that flat out shocked me!

Who stood out you from the game?

CJ Bailey & Grayson (McCall), both of them truly were able to move the ball constantly making big time throws and runs!

Did you get to interact with any of the players? Do you have any relationships with any of the Wolfpack players?

Wasn’t really able to get in touch with the players due to them trying to stay focused because of their game. I was able to talk to NC State Commit Will Wilson (QB) and he told me everything that helped him with choosing NC State and why he committed.

What were your interactions with the Coaches like?

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the head and assistant recruiter. Then coach
Roper was waiting for me, walking me out to the event where Coach Doeren loved on us and truly welcomed us home!

Where does NC State currently in your recruitment?

All I know is NC State is in a very good spot!

_______

This was the 3rd time Gilmore has been on campus this year, attending Junior Day in January, as well as an unofficial visit in March.

ON3 ranks Gilmore as the #5 player in the state of South Carolina in the 2026 recruiting class.

Gilmore, who plays for Gaffney in Elgin, South Carolina, picked up an offer from NC State on February 20th, and he also holds offers from Virginia Tech, UCF and others.

PI EXCLUSIVE: NC State is Currently #1 for 3-Star Safety Ja’Torian Mack

Published

on

3-Star Safety Ja’Torian Mack (6’0″/180) was in attendance for NC State’s Spring Game last Saturday. I caught up with him to get his take. Preview…the Wolfpack are #1 on his list as things currently stand.

What were your overall thoughts of the game? What excited you about the way this team played?

I felt like the energy was there from the beginning of warmups through the very end of the game & the way the just got along after someone made a play no matter offense or defense just boosted my liking.

Who stood out you from the game?

KC (Kevin Concepcion) even though he is on the opposite side of the ball. I just like how physical and hard he plays.

What were your interactions with the Coaches like?

Interactions with the coaches were great. I had the pleasure of speaking with some of the coaching staff, especially Coach DeForest, talking over the defense and how they run things on the back end. I also had the pleasure to see my former teammate Josh Alexander (Joshua Alexander Felton/Freshman DE). Coach Wiles and I talked about all the things he knows about Edgewater and relationships he’s had down in Florida.

Where does NC State currently in your recruitment?

As of right now, they’re definitely #1.

_______

Mack will be taking an Official Visit to NC State on June 19-21.

He plays for Edgewater in Orlando, Florida. NC State offered Mack on back on February 8th, and he also holds offers from Georgia Tech, Iowa St., Louisville, West Virginia and others.
