NC State’s most coveted 2018 recruiting target has been 4 Star Sanderson Defensive Tackle Alim McNeil for quite sometime now, and tonight he dropped a bomb on the Twitterverse.
McNeil was initially supposed to announce his decision on September 9th, but on September 20th he announced that he would be delaying his decision to January 6th, when he would announce his school choice during halftime of the U.S. Army All-American game.
He was clear that NC State was his leader up until then, and has affirmed that afterwards as well. McNeil has official visits scheduled for Virginia Tech and Michigan in the future, but it looks like he doesn’t need to visit there before making his decision, which really looks good for the Wolfpack.
Let’s be real. My man is from Raleigh, has North Carolina (THE STATE) pride, and has been to more NC State games this season than most Wolfpack fans, and I doubt he would miss homecoming this weekend against Clemson for the world.
McNeil stands 6’2”, weighs 286 pounds, and is looking to play football and baseball in college (Yes, he’s talked to State about that). He hit .333 and had a .447 on-base percentage last year. He also slips over to the offensive side in football, and has 11 touchdowns at fullback the past two seasons.
Dude is a freak.
It would be shocking to see him not join his Sanderson teammate, 3-Star running back Trent Pennix, as an NC State Commit on Saturday morning at 10am.
I spoke with McNeil briefly tonight, and while he didn’t tell me who he was committing to, he did say:
“I’m so ready to commit, that’s all. Been waiting long enough”
