Today Redshirt Junior Running Back Damontay Rhem (5’11″/213) got some of the best news of his collegiate career. He was awarded a scholarship. You have to love watching these videos every year.

Rhem transferred to NC State from UNC Pembroke as a preferred walk-on, guaranteeing himself a spot on the roster, and enrolled in January of 2017, and redshirted last season. In 2015 at UNC Pembroke, he rushed for 90 yards on 28 carries (7 games). Rhem rushed for 1,745 yards while tallying 432 receiving yards at East Wake (Wendell, NC) his Senior year, scoring 17 touchdowns.

Here’s what Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren had to say about him in the above video:

“When he transferred here, he walked on. His mom is fighting for her life. He lives at home. He scraps for every damn penny he has. He’s one of the hardest working dudes on this football team. At the beginning of the season, every coach slated him as a guy that was going to help us win, and he still is. He’s a grinder. A Worker. He’s everything we talk about when we talk about work ethic and hustle.
