#12 NC State Women’s Soccer Defeats #20 Princeton on the Road

Published

on

The #12 NC State Women’s Soccer team defeated #20 Princeton on the road last night 3-1, improving their record to 5-0-1 (Soccer America ranks the Wolfpack #12. The United Soccer Coaches Poll Ranks them #13).

Game Summary

Princeton was the first on the board, scoring at the 23-minute mark, but 19 seconds later NC State tied things up with a goal from Junior Paige Griffiths (Assist: Senior Maxine Blackwood).

At the half, the score was tied 1-1.

The Wolfpack put two more goals in the net in the second half, but it came down to the very end of regulation. Senior Ella Bonner scored off a corner kick at the 84-minute mark, and then Wolfpack goal leader Junior Tziarra King picked up her 5th goal of the season 2 minutes later (Assist: Junior Ricci Walklking).

Coach Santoro’s Thoughts

Bullets

  • NC State gave Princeton their first loss of the season, and were the first team to put the ball through the nets against them so far in 2018.
  • The Wolfpack outshot the Tigers 13 to 8, and had 5 shots on goal, compared to Princeton’s 4.
  • NC State is off to their best start since 2008.
  • The Wolfpack haven’t lost in 11 straight regular season games.
  • Junior Tziarra King is tied for the ACC lead in goals (5), and ranks second in points (12). She also leads the ACC in shots, with 30.
  • NC State has now defeated two Top-20 teams through the first 6 games of 2018.

I wouldn’t be surprised for the Wolfpack to crack the Top-10 in this weeks poll. NC State’s next match is against George Washington at home this Thursday at 7pm.
