2022 4-star guard, Jayden Epps, is a quintessential Keatts guy.
A kid who was undersized coming into high school had his share of doubters, but beat them all, sprouted up, and is now one of the better guards in the nation. Just look at this quote he gave to Sports Illustrated last year…
“I’m just different,” said Epps, a combo guard at King’s Fork (Suffolk, Va.). “If it’s genuine interest that’s different, but I’m not mentioning a school that only reached out once just because they have a big name. When it’s real, you’ll know. I’m more worried about getting to work.”
And this one…
“I pride myself in how I prepare,” Epps said. “Coming into the summer I had the mindset to kill everyone in front of me whenever I step onto the court. I try to focus on proving things to myself because I’m my own worst critic.”
Epps is listed as a combo guard, but he’s really. a point guard who can score. The difference is that he’s a leader and very controlled player whose on floor-IQ is off the charts. He’s a great passer and loves to lock down on defense. But, don’t get mixed up, he can score it too. He averaged 25 points this past high school season.
Today at noon, Epps finally. makes his decision.
NC State has been on him for a long, long time, and if what he says is true and values loyalty from recruiting coaches, then Keatts is in a good position here.
247 believes it’s down to NC State, Providence and Florida, according to this tweet…
With the incoming PG Breon Pass, and if they land Epps, you’ll see Keatts focus on transitioning Cam Hayes into a true scoring guard, which is likely his more suited role at this level anyways
Skill-wise, Epps is an elite ball handler which great body control, great vision, high-IQ and a sweet stroke.
We’ll keep an eye on this and let you know where Epps is heading after his noon decision.
Looks like its Providence.
