A bill proposed in the North Carolina House of Representatives has been swirling around that would force NC State and UNC to play one another, and then force the two of them to play East Carolina, UNC-Charlotte and Appalachian St.

Two days ago, the pr0posed bill passed through a House Committee in less than 2 minutes.

With that being said, North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore stated today, in actuality, the bill isn’t going anywhere in his estimation.

“It’s had the hearing it will have,” Moore said. “It had a committee hearing. I told them they could hear it in committee, but it won’t come to the floor.” (Link)

For a little context, Representatives David Willis and Jason Saine were on the committee that proposed the bill, and Willis is a graduate of Appalachian St. and Saine has a degree from UNC-Charlotte.

To add even more context, House Speaker Tim Moore is a graduate of UNC.

The proposed bill, House Bill 965, which you can read here in full, NC State and UNC would be required to play one another annually in Football, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball. The Wolfpack and the Tar Heels would also be forced to play a game annually in all three sports against either ECU, UNC-Charlotte or App St. Every six years, NC State and UNC would be required to have played a home and away game against each of the three school in all three sports.

It’s worth noting that NC State is already scheduled to play UNC annually as members of the ACC, though that could change drastically with the unknown future of the conference. The Wolfpack also has a home-and-home football series scheduled with both ECU and UNCC.

There was as a home-and-home series scheduled with App St. in football that was cancelled due to the addition of a home-and-home series with UVA (non-conference series). With that being said, it has been reported that NC State and Appalachian State are actively looking to reschedule the series.
