Former NC State All-ACC Quarterback Russell Wilson made his 2024 NFL debut on Sunday night, after missing the first 6 games with a calf injury. Wilson’s debut with Pittsburgh was historic, throwing for 264 yards in the Steelers’ 37-15 win over the Jets, which is the most yards passing by a Quarterback in their first start in program history.

The record that Wilson broke had been standing since 1957, when Earl Morrall’s threw for 249 yards in his first start with the Steelers. Somewhere around 27 Quarterbacks have started at Quarterback for Pittsburgh since Earl Morrall, but Wilson was the one to break the 67-year old record.

On the night, Wilson was 16 of 29 for 264 yards and 2 touchdowns. His QB Rating was 109.0. Russell also rushed for a 2-yard touchdown.

Wilson sparked Pittsburgh to produce 37 points in the contest, which makes him the first Quarterback to lead the Steelers to score 30+ points in their first start with the team since 1950, when the stat began being tracked.

Last season, Wilson threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, with a QB Rating of 98.0 in Denver. He also rushed for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wilson ranked 8th in QB Rating and 9th in touchdowns last season.

Wilson is playing in his 13th NFL season.
