NC State RB Hollywood Smothers Announces He is Returning in 2025

Redshirt Freshman Running Back Hollywood Smothers just announced that he will be returning to NC State in 2025!

Smothers transferred to NC State this past offseason, after redshirting his first season of college football at Oklahoma.

This season, Smothers is having one of the better seasons in NC State history by a Freshman. Smothers is averaging 5.84 yards per carry, which is the 9th best average by a Running Back in a single season in school history, regardless of class.

He has rushed for 432 yards and 6 touchdowns, and has caught 17 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown.

When you combine his rushing and receiving yards, Smothers’ leads the NC State offense in all-purpose yards with 653.

Smothers’ 7 total touchdowns rank 2nd on the team, trailing KC Concepcion by 1.

With Smothers’ returning in 2025, and True Freshman Quarterback CJ Bailey announcing the same earlier this week, 2 of NC State’s most essential pieces are locked in for next year.

In my opinion, the two most important offensive players for the Wolfpack to retain this offseason were Smothers and Bailey.

Mission accomplished.

The fact that they are both Freshmen, means the future is bright for NC State’s offensive attack.
