Yesterday, when the Transfer Portal opened, NC State offered Wisconsin Defensive End Transfer James Thompson. Jr. (6’5″/295).

Thompson practically missed the entire 2024 season due to a torn pectoral muscle. He didn’t suit up until Week 13, where he played 7 snaps at Nebraska, but he didn’t play in the Badgers’ season finale against Minnesota.

Wisconsin felt the absence of Thompson, who would have been a starter in his Senior season. Thompson started in 11 of 13 games in 2023, tallying 29 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 2 pass breakups. His PFF grade was 66.5.

In 2022, Thompson started in 7 of Wisconsin’s 12 games, recording 23 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 2 sacks, with a PFF grade of 72.9.

Coming out of high school, Thompson Jr. was a 3-star prospect out of Roger Bacon High School (Cincinnati, Ohio). Currently, ON3 ranks him as the #89 overall player in the Transfer Portal, and the #5 Defensive Lineman.

Since entering the Portal yesterday, Thompson Jr. picked up offers from NC State, Auburn, Stanford, Cal, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and Illinois.
