NC State Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver Jalen Coit is entering the Transfer Portal.

Coit’s primary role the past two years has been returning punts. In 2023, he averaged 10.4 yards per put, which ranked 3rd in the ACC and 17th in the FBS. This year, the Wolfpack only returned 10 punts, and Coit returned 5, and Sophomore Wide Receiver Kevin Concepcion returned 5. Coit averaged 7.4, and Concepcion averaged 9.0

That means that NC State will be looking for a new Punt Returner in 2025, with Coit and Concepcion both entering the Transfer Portal. There’s no need for panic, because the Wolfpack will have plenty of athletic options. Junior Wide Receiver Wesley Grimes and Freshman Defensive Back Ronnie Royal III were returning punts on the first day of Fall Camp this year. Freshman Wide Receiver Jonathan Paylor, Freshman Wide Receiver Terrell Anderson, Sophomore Running Back Kendrick Raphael and Redshirt Freshman Running Back Hollywood Smothers were all returning kickoffs on the first day. All could be likely candidates to return punts in 2025.

In 33 career games at NC State, Coit played in 33 games, and had 22 receptions for 215 yards.

Coit was a 3-star prospect in the Wolfpack’s 2020 recruiting class, with ESPN ranking him as the #15 player in the state of South Carolina.

He has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Ten NC State players have now entered the Transfer Portal this season:

WR Jakolbe Baldwin
OL Obadiah Obasuyi
TE Juice Vereen
OL Sean Hill
DT DJ Jackson
LB Wyatt Wright
LB Jayland Parker
WR KC Concepcion
DE Red Hibbler
