Johnson has played the past three seasons with the Panthers, starting every game the past two years. This year, Johnson had 69 tackles and 6 pass breakups, with a PFF grade of 70.9. College Football Network named him to their All-Sun Belt Third team in 2024. In 2023, he earned All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention after tallying 61 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 2 pass breakups and 2 fumble recoveries.

Johnson started his career in the JUCO ranks, playing 2 seasons at Mississippi Delta Community College.

Despite the fact that he has played 5 seasons of college football, he has 1 year of eligibility remaining for 2 reasons. First, the 2020 season was the Covid-19 season, so it didn’t count against his eligibility. Secondly, due to the recent legal ruling between the courts and the NCAA, all players that ran out of eligibility this athletic year that played previously at a Junior College, were granted an additional year in 2025-26.

Since entering the Portal, Johnson has also picked up offers from Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Memphis. He took a visit to Vanderbilt this weekend, and Georgia Tech on Monday.
