Former NC State All-American Offensive Lineman Joe Thuney will be playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. This will mark his 6th Super Bowl appearance in his first 9 seasons in the NFL.

Thuney is on a path toward the NFL Hall of Fame, having earned All-Pro 1st Team honors twice and 2nd Team honors twice.

The fact that he is tied for the second-most Super Bowl appearances in NFL history only serves to bolster his resume.

  1. Tom Brady – 10 appearances
  2. Joe Thuney – 6 appearances
  3. Stephen Gostkowski – 6 appearances
  4. Mike Lodish – 6 appearances

Thuney already has 4 Super Bowl rings, winning 2 with New England and 2 with Kansas City. If the Chiefs win on Sunday, he will have amassed 5 Super Bowl rings in 9 seasons, tying him with Charles Haley for the second-most Super Bowl rings by a player in NFL history, trailing only Tom Brady’s 7.

Currently, Thuney is tied with 35 other players who have won 4 Super Bowls.

Back in 2015, USA Today named Thuney to their 1st Team All-American team, making him the first NC State offensive lineman to earn All-American honors since 1979. He paved the way for Garrett Bradbury, Terronne Prescod, and Ikem Ekwonu, who followed in his footsteps.
