In the first hour of free agency yesterday, news broke that former NC State Defensive Tackle BJ Hill signed a new 3-year deal with the Bengals worth $33 million, with $16 million guaranteed.

After spending his first three seasons with the Giants, who drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2018 NFL Draft, New York traded him to Cincinnati along with a 7th round pick for Billy Price. After 1 year (16 games played/2 starts) with the Bengals, Hill was signed to a 3-year $30 million contract that just expired. After signing that contract, Hill has started every game he has played in for Cincy (48 games). He has been the epitome of durable, and a favorite of the coaches, locker room and fans.

The past year, Hill had 56 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 4 pass breakups. His PFF Grade of 70.2 was the 4th highest on the Bengals defense, which was his highest grade since 2021. His Run Stop Win Rate of 37% ranked 9th among all Defensive Tackles last season.

Cincy Quarterback Joe Burrow and Tight End Mike Gesicki had this to say about Hill signing again with the Bengals.

“He’s been a reliable part of that front for the last four years,” Burrow said last season. “Another guy who was kind of overlooked early in his career, but has really made a name for himself here. He’s been a core part of this team. B.J. means a lot.”

“Look at that. Everybody’s happy. Everybody’s happy,” said Gesicki as he pounded the podium when he was told of the Hill deal. “Obviously, the player he is, but I think even more importantly is the guy he is in the locker room. The leader he is. The city loves him, the fans love him. Everybody in the locker room loves him. That’s a huge piece.” (Bengals)

Hill currently ranks 11th in NC State history in career NFL tackles, 10th in sacks and tackles for loss and 3rd in QB Hits.
