Former NC State All-American Shortstop Will Wilson was called up to the Big Leagues yesterday, and he recorded his 1st career hit in his debut today, hitting a Single in the Bottom of the 9th inning against the Yankees.

Wilson started at 3rd Base, and finished the day 1 for 4.

At NC State, Wilson finished his career with 407 Total Bases (9th all-time), 39 Home Runs (8th all-time) and 57 Doubles (8th all-time). In 2019, Wilson was a Consensus 1st Team All-American, and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Wilson earned All-ACC honors 3 times as a member of the Wolfpack, earning 1st Team honors twice and 2nd Team honors once.

Back in 2019, Wilson was selected by the Los Angeles Angels with the 15th overall pick in the 1st round. He’s one of eight former Wolfpack players to be drafted in the 1st round and the fourth-highest draft pick in school history. In December of 2019, Wilson was traded to the San Francisco Giants. This past December, he was snagged by the Guardians in the Rule 5 Draft.

In 18 games with the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A) this season, he hit .324 with six home runs, boasting an OPS of 1.065.

A spot was opened up for Wilson on the Guardians’ roster when they placed outfielder Lane Thomas on the injured list.

Wilson has experience playing third base, shortstop, second base, and even outfield.

With the “Mayor of Kings Mountain” now in the big leagues, NC State has four former players on a major league roster, joining pitcher Carlos Rodón (Yankees), catcher Patrick Bailey (Giants), and shortstop Trea Turner (Phillies).
