True Freshman Wide Receiver Teddy Hoffmann met with the media yesterday after practice leading up to NC State’s matchup against UVA this Saturday.
Last Thursday, Hoffmann proved why he deserved the 4-Star rating Rivals game him as a Senior at Atlantic High School (Boca Raton, FL) last year. He finished the game tied for the team lead in receptions (5) and targets (6), finishing with 93 receiving yards—the second-most on the team.
Hoffmann maximized his 19 snaps, earning a PFF Grade of 86.7, which was the highest grade on the Wolfpack offense.

_______
What was it like getting out there in front of 56,000 people?
It was a lot of fun. I wasn’t too nervous, because I knew it was my chance to show everybody what I had, but it was fun being out there with my guys.
We’ve been practicing for a while and it was just a good opportunity.
What’s the relationship like with CJ (Bailey) already at this point?
We’ve been friends on-and-off the field. He trusts me, and I trust him.
I feel like having a relationship off the field means a lot on the field. When things get hard, we know how to talk to each other, and get back to it.
How much did that one drive, with four straight catches help you settle into the year, just knowing that he’s comfortable to come back to you?
It felt good, because it kind of felt like high school. It gave me a lot of confidence on the field. I knew when he needed a play to be made, if he looks my way, I’m going to make the play.
It’s easy for coaches to say that a Freshman will play right away, but Coach Doeren has a proven track record. How appealing was that when you saw that he does play True Freshmen?
He did tell me a lot during the recruiting process that I’d get on the field early, but you have to earn it, and when you get here, you’ve got to work hard. That’s what I did every day with my head down. I’m excited for the future.
What was the response like back home after the game?
A lot of people calling and texting. It was just a blessing. I’m really happy to be in this position that I’m in.
I was happy my mom and dad could come and watch me play, too.
How encouraging was the rest of the wide receiver room after your first game?
They were very encouraging, proud of me, happy for me. Anybody on the team could go off at any moment.
Whoever the plays called for, really. We have a very talented room. All of our guys are ready to make plays.
What are your impressions of UVA?
I think they’re a good team. They’ve got pretty good Corners.
One of them is really long. Good team. We’re going to game plan, and take care of them.
As a Freshman, what’s your next step? What can make you a better football player, in your estimation?
I think, based off last game, just blocking. When the ball’s not coming my way, doing the right thing every time.
Just the little details. Route depth. One of the routes, it looked like CJ was late, but I ran the route too short. Little things like that.
Some people were surprised at how well you did on Thursday. Should they have been?
I mean, if they were surprised, that’s nice.
I wasn’t surprised. Like I said, we work hard every day. I thought I was ready for the moment.
What was your first experience at Carter-Finley like, seeing close to 60,000 people?
It was amazing. It was very loud. I’ve never been in an environment like that before.
I never actually took a visit here or watched a game before, so it was really special.
