NC State vs. Pitt: A Historical Perspective

NC State (4-3, 1-2 ACC) will hit the road this Saturday to face Pitt (5-2, 3-1 ACC) at 3:30 p.m. on the ACC Network. This will mark the 12th meeting between the Wolfpack and the Panthers in football. The all-time series is currently tied 5-5-1.

Head coach Dave Doeren is 2-0 against Pitt, with both wins coming on the road. NC State defeated the Panthers 35-17 in 2017 and 30-29 in 2020.

The Wolfpack enters the matchup riding a three-game winning streak against the Panthers, which began with a 38-31 win in Raleigh in 2009.

The series between NC State and Pitt began in 1952 in Pittsburgh, when the Panthers steamrolled the Wolfpack 48-6.

NC State is 2-4 in games played at Pitt, with current head coach Dave Doeren responsible for both victories.
A couple of Wolfpack players have recorded some of the best single-game special-teams performances in school history against Pitt.

Nyheim Hines racked up 249 all-purpose yards in 2017 against the Panthers, the 10th-most in school history. His 94 punt-return yards rank 4th all-time, and his 92-yard punt return is the 2nd longest in program history.

Greg Golden tallied 175 kickoff-return yards against Pitt in 2001*, the 5th-most in a single game in school history.

As a defensive unit, the Wolfpack forced seven turnovers against the Panthers in 2009, which is tied for the second-most in program history.
