NC State Announces Defensive Staff Changes Following Charley Wiles’ New Role

After serving as NC State’s defensive line coach since 2020, Charley Wiles will transition into a new role as the Wolfpack’s Director of High School Relations.

Wiles replaces Henry Trevathan, who officially retired yesterday after serving in the position since Dave Doeren was hired in 2013.

Wiles brings decades of experience to the role. He has been an assistant coach since 1989, with stops at East Tennessee State, Murray State, Virginia Tech, and NC State. His long-standing relationships across the high school football landscape make him a natural fit to maintain and expand the Wolfpack’s recruiting footprint.

Defensive Staff Responsibilities Shift

With Wiles stepping away from the defensive line room, NC State has adjusted several coaching assignments on defense.

Defensive coordinator DJ Eliot will now coach defensive ends and JACK linebackers, in addition to his responsibilities as play-caller.

Elisha Shaw, who served as co-defensive line coach alongside Wiles last season, will now take full responsibility for defensive tackles and nose guards.

Isaiah Moore Elevated to Inside Linebackers Coach

Eliot’s expanded role also created an opening at inside linebacker, which will be filled by former All-ACC linebacker Isaiah Moore.

Moore served as a quality control coach last season and now steps into a full position coach role, working with NC State’s inside linebackers. His familiarity with the program and recent playing experience provide continuity within the defensive staff.
