NC State continued their strong run with a solid 82-73 home victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Lenovo Center. The Wolfpack improved to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in the ACC, marking their sixth straight win and extending one of their best conference starts in decades.
The Pack jumped out to a commanding 36-24 halftime lead, fueled by an 11-0 run late in the first half. They shot efficiently throughout, connecting on 52% from the field (28-of-54) and a sharp 43% from three (9-of-21). NC State dominated in transition with a 13-6 edge in fast-break points, grabbed more rebounds (30-35 total, including a big 25-5 advantage on the defensive glass), and forced 15 turnovers while committing only 11 themselves.
Quadir Copeland and Paul McNeil Jr. led the charge with 21 points each. Copeland delivered a standout all-around performance with 10 assists, 5 steals (tying his career high), and he surpassed 1,000 career points during the game. Tre Holloman chipped in 16 points off the bench, while Ven-Allen Lubin added 11 points and 7 rebounds.
For Virginia Tech (now 16-8, 5-6 ACC), Tobi Lawal posted 17 points and 15 rebounds in a double-double effort. Amani Hansberry led their scoring with 19 points to go with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The Hokies shot 43% from the field (27-of-63) and 28% from deep (7-of-25), struggling to keep pace after the break despite outscoring State 49-46 in the second half.
Overall, it was another impressive showing for NC State’s guard play and defensive rebounding, helping them pull away and secure the win in a key ACC matchup.
