I’ve connected with quite a few former NC State players to get their thoughts on the hiring of Justin Gainey as the new head coach for the Wolfpack Men’s Basketball team. Last night we posted Jeremy Hyatt’s thoughts. This morning we shared Brandon Costner’s thoughts. Next up is former NC State Forward Ben McCauley.

Gainey was on staff as an administrative coordinator and director of operations at NC State while McCauley was in Raleigh.

McCauley averaged 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds during his 4-year career at NC State.

Here’s what McCauley had to say about NC State hiring Gainey:

“Personally I think it is the perfect pick. I was fortunate to play 3 years while he was at the program just starting out. Coach Gainey will bring expertise from coaching along side greats at Santa Clara, Arizona, Marquette and then Tennessee. He’ll bring a defensive mind back to the program, and with his recruiting ability, I’m sure we will have the talent to compete for ACC Championships. Being from High Point and playing at NC State he knows the ACC and what it takes to win. Very excited to have him back.”
