According to Chad Simmons of Rivals, 3-star 2027 safety Kamarion Johnson (6’0”, 185 pounds) has decommitted from NC State.

It’s worth noting that Johnson has not publicly announced the decision on his personal social media accounts at this time.

Johnson originally committed to the Wolfpack on February 6. At the time of his commitment, he was an unrated prospect. Since then, his recruitment has taken off, he’s now rated as a 3-star prospect, with 247Sports ranking him as the No. 36 safety nationally and the No. 43 overall player in the state of Georgia.

On the field, Johnson showed his versatility this past fall at Clinch County (Homerville, GA) by making an impact on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, he recorded 38 receptions for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns, displaying big-play ability and reliable hands. Defensively, he lined up at safety and totaled 34 tackles, three tackles for loss, and five interceptions, flashing the instincts and ball skills that have quickly elevated his profile.

At the time of his commitment, Johnson was NC State’s third verbal pledge in the 2027 recruiting class.

He picked up an offer from the Wolfpack on October 13 and also holds offers from Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern and Troy.

Despite the decommitment, this recruitment may not be over just yet.

Johnson still plans to take an official visit to NC State from May 8–10.

NC State now has 5 players in their 2027 recruiting class:

4-Star QB Gunner Rivers
3-Star TE Griffin Cockerham
3-Star RB Christian Freeman
3-Star TE CJ Jordan
