NC State jumped 13 spots to No. 38 in the RPI, which was the biggest jump over the past week.

This surge in the RPI is significant for NC State. The RPI is a primary metric the NCAA uses for at-large tournament bids, seeding, and regional hosting decisions. It rewards quality wins against strong opponents while considering the strength of the schedule. Climbing to No. 38 strengthens the Wolfpack’s resume heading into the final stretch of the regular season. It improves their chances of securing an NCAA Tournament berth and a more favorable draw, potentially even regional hosting if the momentum continues.

Whey they’re moving on up…

The Wolfpack earned a key 2-1 series victory over Miami.  After splitting the first two games, NC State powered past the Hurricanes 12 7 in the series finale that really brought the drama.

Miami built a 5-2 lead with five runs in the fourth inning. NC State battled back to tie it at 5-5 on Luke Nixon’s two-run home run. The teams traded blows until the seventh when freshman shortstop Christian Serrano delivered an RBI single to give NC State an 8-7 edge. Then, in the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs, Sherman Johnson delivered the knockout blow, a grand slam that extended the lead to 12-7 and sealed the win.

The victory improved the Wolfpack to 30-17 overall and 12-12 in ACC play, returning them to the .500 mark in conference action.

Path to Postseason

With seven regular-season games left NC State must capitalize on opportunities to keep climbing in the RPI and solidify its postseason position. The schedule includes a midweek home contest against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, followed by a challenging three-game set at Stanford May 8 -10. The regular season wraps with a home weekend against UNC on May 14 -16.

To stay in strong position, the Wolfpack needs to take care of business against North Carolina A&T and hopefully win the series against Stanford and UNC. Continuing to win will continue to boost their RPI build momentum and improve their ACC standing ahead of the conference tournament, which begins May 19 in Charlotte. A strong finish could lock in an at-large NCAA bid or even hosting rights while positioning them to make a run in the ACC Tournament.

The Wolfpack have shown resilience in the face of adversity all season. This latest RPI jump and series win provide the perfect boost as they head down the home stretch.
