NC State’s NCAA Tournament Odds drop (slightly) after blowout loss to Louisville

With only 6 games left to play in the season, NC State finds itself in a pretty good spot.

They are 9-3 in the ACC, sitting in sole possession of 4th place, and as of now, almost all tournament projection sites have them squarely in.

Let’s take a look…

ESPN Bracketology has NC State in as an 8th seed, which is one spot down from last week. They believe NC State’s ceiling is a 6th seed.

Team Rankings believes NC State is a lock for the tournament, listing them as 100% odds on making it, but also projecting them to finish with a 22-9 record. To get to that, NC State would win 4 of their next 6 game. Their upcoming schedule is Miami, UNC, Duke, Virginia, and Stanford. Yeah, if NC State wins 4 of those, no duh, they’d be 100% in. But winning 4 of those 6 doesn’t seem so easy.

Next, you have On3’s projections, which are based on the NET rankings. I can’t tell if they are looking at future schedules to provide projections, just looking at the NET today and making a call. Either way, they have NC State as a #7 seed.

Then there is playoffstatus.com, which has NC State as only a 72% chance of making the tournament, based on the coming matchups and how they believe the final 6 games will play out.

Obviously, all of this will shift, but winning vs. Miami on Saturday would pretty much clinch NC State into the NCAA Tournament if you ask me.
