CBS’ Jon Rothstein shared 5 college basketball observations in an article today, and one of them was on the impact of the addition of Maverick Rowan.  NC State’s odds at winning the NCAA championship next season were 30/1 before Trevor Lacey left for Italy.  Since his departure those odds plummeted to 70/1.  I’m not saying that Jon Rothstein thinks NC State is going to win a national championship, but he does think the addition of Rowan should get the Wolfpack back to the Big Dance, and finish in the top half of the ACC.

Here’s what he had to say:

4. Maverick Rowan fills a void for NC State

The Wolfpack have been a wing short ever since Trevor Lacey made the decision to bypass the chance to return to school and enter the NBA Draft. Now they’ve got somebody to take his place. Rowan’s decision to reclassify to a 2015 graduate means that NC State now has a player to fill the void left behind by Lacey and that means Mark Gottfried will again have a team that should be able to finish in the top half of the ACC. A potent shooter, the 6-6 Rowan should blend nicely on the perimeter with Cat Barber, West Virginia transfer Terry Henderson, and the twins — Caleb and Cody Martin. The Wolfpack have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of Gottfried’s four years in Raleigh and the addition of Rowan makes it feel like a fifth consecutive trip to the field of 68 should occur in 2016.
