NBA Update: Smith Jr Falls short in battle of the ‘ROY’ Candidates

Published

on

Dennis Smith Jr and the Mavs fell to the 76ers last night despite a pretty good effort from the rookie. Smith Jr dropped 12 points and added 8 assists, 2 boards, and a steal. Unfortunately, he also committed 6 turnovers. That being said, he once again provided an entertainment. Just check out this finish over Amir Johnson.

DSJ is averaging 13 pts, 6.6 assists, and 3 rebounds and is hoping to be in the conversation for rookie of the year, however Saturday night’s counterpart, Ben Simmons is the leader at this point. His 17.5 pts, 7.5 assists and 9.5 boards per game are insane, but could be sustainable due to his skillset and size. Smith has some work to do if he wants to catch Simmons.

Meanwhile…

TJ Warren
and the Suns took their first loss of the season under interim head coach Jay Triano, falling to Portland 114-107. Warren finished with 12 points, 7 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal and a block, but missed a few big shots late which had the Twitter trolls out against him in full force. (We aren’t posting that negativity, but you can search it.)

While this may not have been his best outing, TJ has been having a good season thus far. He is starting and averaging 15 points and 5 boards, while still shaking off rust from his early season head injury.
