Former NC State PG Quadir Copeland signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets, giving him a chance to prove he belongs in the NBA, and on Friday, he got off to a good start.

Q dropped 14 points, on an efficient 4-6 shooting, with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. He was also 2-3 from 3pt range, an area he’s struggled with, consistency-wise.

Check out the highlights below…

Copeland is hoping to showcase his talents and make the NBA roster. His next game will be tonight, July 11th at 9:30pm.

He finished the regular season with 435 points and 205 assists, becoming just one of three ACC players over the past 30 years to record at least 400 points and 200 assists in a single regular season.

The other two players to ever accomplish the feat are:

Jerian Grant (Notre Dame)
Greivis Vasquez (Maryland)

At NC State, only Chris Corchiani had previously reached those benchmarks, totaling 435 points and 265 assists during the 1990-91 season.

Here are his 2025-26 Statistics…

  • 13.9 points per game
  • 6.5 assists per game
  • 3.6 rebounds per game
  • 1.8 steals per game

If you want our take, Copeland is going to make it in the NBA. He’s got the intangibles and the frustrating quirks that seemed to hold him back from being one of college basketball’s best players will play well in the pros.

Some believe, if it weren’t for Copeland, last year’s team would have unraveled worse than it did down the stretch, while others are in the camp that Copeland’s playing style didn’t mesh well with others. If you want my opinion, it was a little of both, but Copeland’s value far outweighed his cost and he’ll go down as one of the more entertaining and passionate players we’ve seen at NC State in quite a while.
