NC State ace Ryan Marohn is headed to professional baseball.

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Marohn with the 140th overall pick in the 5th round of the 2026 MLB Draft yesterday.

The slot value for the No. 140 overall selection is $532,000.

Marohn becomes the latest Wolfpack standout to hear his name called after developing into one of the ACC’s premier starting pitchers over the past two seasons.

Dominant Junior Season

Marohn entered 2026 as NC State’s Friday night starter and quickly established himself as one of the conference’s most dependable arms before his season was cut short by injury.

2026 Statistics
6-1 record
3.18 ERA
62 strikeouts
22 walks
45.1 innings pitched
.204 opponent batting average
1.19 WHIP

When healthy, Marohn consistently gave the Wolfpack an opportunity to win every Friday night.

His ability to generate swings and misses while limiting hard contact made him one of the ACC’s top starters.

Proven Success

Marohn’s breakout wasn’t limited to one season.

As a sophomore in 2025, he earned Third Team All-ACC honors after posting:

8-3 record
3.38 ERA

Over the past two seasons, Marohn developed into one of the most consistent weekend starters in the conference, helping anchor NC State’s rotation.

A Well-Earned Opportunity

Marohn entered the draft viewed as a likely Day 2 selection, with several publications ranking him among the top 150 prospects in the class.

Despite having his junior season shortened by injury, the Pirates clearly saw enough to invest a fifth-round pick in the left-hander.

If he signs for slot value, Marohn would receive a bonus of approximately $532,000.
