Former Wolfpacker Nate McMillan finalizing multi-year deal with Indiana Pacers

After a pretty impressive 48 win season (good for 5th best in the NBA), the Indiana Pacers have reportedly rewarded their head coach (former Wolfpacker) Nate McMillan, a contract extension.

After dealing away superstar Paul George, many thought the Pacers would go into rebuild mode. That didn’t happen.

Led by the emergence of 5th-year guard Victor Oladipo, the Pacers came together and meshed as a unit. With 7 guys averaging in double figures for the season, they made the playoffs and nearly knocked off LeBron and the Cavs in the 1st round

This was a no-ego group that thrived playing the part of the underdog.

Some of that can be tracked back to the type of players they had, but a lot of the credit must go to McMillan who has found some sort of success at every spot he’s been at. First Seattle, then Portland, and now Indiana.

The Pacers will return their starting 5 next season, so Indiana is going with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset. However, they will likely be expected to win around 50 games and get back to the playoffs.
