NC State Football Recruiting Update – September 20, 2018:

Big Commit

Target JUCO QB Bailey Hockman has committed to State.  He is taking our only 2019 QB spot.

Hockman was a consensus 4* Pro-Style QB in the 2017 class.

He has a very strong arm, very mobile. Good athlete.

Worst case, he provides good quality depth behind Leary and McKay.  We should have a very good stable of highly capable QBs next year once Finley leaves.

Predictions for a Jump

I think if Drake Thomas and Jamious Griffin continue to post as big of numbers as they are currently doing throughout this season, they will both easily be 4* recruits at the end of the cycle.

I think Jamious Griffin is vastly underrated because he plays in a super talent rich area of Georgia on one of the state’s best teams.

Drake Thomas has been overshadowed but some overrated players, but he is just a flat out great football player who is a headhunter and a difference maker on defense.

Big Recruiting Weekends Coming Up

The West Virginia game was shaping up to be a huge weekend for recruiting, but Florence had other plans.

Looks like Florida State on 11/3 and Wake Forest on Thursday, 11/8 are going to be our biggest recruiting events we have left.

The weekend of 11/8 also coincides with home basketball at PNC for us.

4-Star WR Davion Brown Took an Unofficial Visit to NC State Today

Published

4-Star 2026 Wide Receiver Davion Brown (6’1″/200) took an unofficial visit to NC State today.

ON3, 247Sports and Rivals all rank Brown as a Top-250 prospect. ON3 and 247Sports both rank him in the Top-100, with 247Sports ranking him as the #16 overall player nationally in the 2026 recruiting class, the #3 Wide Receiver and the #1 player in the state of Virginia.

NC State offered Brown on January 18th, and he also holds offers from Penn St., Virginia Tech, UVA, Duke, South Carolina, Boston College, Maryland, Pitt, UNC, FSU, Miami, Tennessee, Louisville, Michigan, SMU and others.

This past season, Brown had 34 receptions for 578 yards and 5 touchdowns for Trinity Episcopal in Richmond, Virginia. He also rushed the ball for 366 yards and 3 touchdowns. Those stats are already impressive for a Sophomore, but they would have been even better if he didn’t miss 4 games due to injury.
