NC State Football Recruiting Update – September 20, 2018:

Big Commit

Target JUCO QB Bailey Hockman has committed to State.  He is taking our only 2019 QB spot.

Hockman was a consensus 4* Pro-Style QB in the 2017 class.

He has a very strong arm, very mobile. Good athlete.

Worst case, he provides good quality depth behind Leary and McKay.  We should have a very good stable of highly capable QBs next year once Finley leaves.

Predictions for a Jump

I think if Drake Thomas and Jamious Griffin continue to post as big of numbers as they are currently doing throughout this season, they will both easily be 4* recruits at the end of the cycle.

I think Jamious Griffin is vastly underrated because he plays in a super talent rich area of Georgia on one of the state’s best teams.

Drake Thomas has been overshadowed but some overrated players, but he is just a flat out great football player who is a headhunter and a difference maker on defense.

Big Recruiting Weekends Coming Up

The West Virginia game was shaping up to be a huge weekend for recruiting, but Florence had other plans.

Looks like Florida State on 11/3 and Wake Forest on Thursday, 11/8 are going to be our biggest recruiting events we have left.

The weekend of 11/8 also coincides with home basketball at PNC for us.

Nebraska offered Payne on November 22nd.

It’s a good sign that Payne will be taking his Official Visit to Raleigh this upcoming weekend.

Payne verbally committed to NC State on July 26th. 247Sports ranks him as the #31 JUCO player nationally in the 2020 recruiting class.

Payne finished his 2nd season at Lackawanna Community College with 30 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

Well…that didn’t take long.

After taking an Official Visit to Raleigh this weekend, Wide Receiver Chris Scott (6’1″/160) verbally committed to NC State this morning.

The speedy wideout out of Dacula, Georgia had 832 yards receiving this season. Scott reportedly runs a 4.3 40-yard dash.

Wide Receiver Chris Scott (6’0″/160) out of Dacula High School (Dacula, GA) took an Official Visit to NC State this weekend.

NC State offered Scott back on November 9th, which was his 1st Power 5 offer.

He has since then picked up an offer from Vanderbilt.

Back in July, Scott verbally committed to Eastern Kentucky, and I can’t find anywhere where he decommitted, but maybe I’m just not finding it.

Scott finished his Senior season with 832 yards receiving.

#6 Kicker Ian Williams Commits to NC State

Published

on

Place Kicker Ian Williams of Weddington High School (Matthews, NC) has verbally committed to NC State, after an Official Visit to Raleigh this weekend.

Kohls Kicking ranks Williams as the #6 kicker nationally in the 2020 recruiting class.

Williams is new to Kohl’s. He attended a training camp in the summer of 2019 and showed very well at that event. He followed it up with a dominant performance in July of 2019 at the National Scholarship Camp. Williams was in contention for the Under All-America Game because his field goals and kickoffs are special. His clean leg swing and repeatable motion are very impressive. He also has the ability to hit some very big punts. Williams is someone who should be a D1 scholarship player this fall! (Kohls)
247Sports ranks him as the #12 kicker in the nation.
Williams also held offers from Army, Wofford, UNC-Charlotte and Western Carolina. With Punter Mackenzie Morgan deciding to transfer, a scholarship was extended to Williams.
With Williams’ commitment, NC State will have 4 Special Teams players on scholarship at the start of the 2020 football season.
Junior Place Kicker Chris Dunn
Redshirt Junior Punter Trenton Gill
Sophomore Long Snapper Joe Shimko
Freshman Place Kicker Ian Williams
Williams is the 18th member of NC State’s 2020 recruiting class.
