NC State Men’s Basketball Head Coaching Job Ranked 5th Best Job in ACC

Published

on

For the third year in a row, Stadium polled coaches in the ACC to get their thoughts on the best head coaching jobs in the conference. Here are the 8 categories that were used to compile the rankings.

According to their interpretation of their collected data from league sources, the NC State Men’s Basketball Head Coaching job is the 5th best in the ACC.

Here’s what they had to say about the Wolfpack job:

5. N.C. State (86) – The Wolfpack won national titles in 1974 and ’83, but haven’t gotten past the Sweet 16 since 1986. Jim Valvano had it going in the 1980s, but it’s been a roller-coaster ride ever since. N.C. State has been mediocre while Duke and UNC have thrived. But N.C. State ranks in the upper-tier in everything – from tradition to resources to being able to get and keep kids in school.

Where they win: “They have the facilities, tradition and it’s all about basketball. They are committed to it, and the fan base is rabid.” – ACC assistant

The knock: “They have the little brother complex. Fans have completely unrealistic expectations. They haven’t won at a high level since the mid-1980s and most people know they weren’t exactly following all the rules back then.” – ACC assistant (Stadium)
