NC State vs. Kansas: A Historical Perspective

NC State (7-3) will play Kansas (7-2) on the road tomorrow at 3:15 on the road. Here’s a historical look at the series between the Wolfpack and the Jayhawks.

NC State is 1-12 against Kansas, in a series that began back on December 20th, 1958. The first game of the series is the only game that the Wolfpack has won, defeating the Jayhawks 66-63 in Lawrence, Kansas. NC State was ranked 4th nationally.

NC State and Kansas have met twice in the NCAA Tournament. In 2012, the #11 seed Wolfpack lost 57-60 to the #2 seed Jayhawks in the Sweet 16, with Richard Howell’s heave from long range didn’t go through the net. CJ Leslie had 18 points, and Scott Wood had 12. In 1986, #6 seed NC State lost to #1 seed Kansas 67-75 in the Elite 8.

The last the two met was down in the Bahamas in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Wolfpack lost 74-80, with Casey Morsell leading the team with 21 points, hitting 5 from long range. Terquavion Smith and Jarkel Joiner both shot the ball poorly, but they did score 19 and 17 respectively.
