With NC State firing Robert Anae today, they were in need of a new Offensive Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach. Quarterbacks Coach Kurt Roper has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator to fill Anae’s shoes, and he will still coach the Quarterbacks.

Gavin Locklear, who has been a Quality Control Coach since 2021 (he was a Graduate Assistant for 2 years before that, and a Volunteer in 2018), has been promoted to coach the Tight Ends.

As a player, Locklear spent his first two seasons with the Wolfpack as a walk-on. He redshirted the 2013 season, and missed the entire 2014 season recovering from a broken leg. In 2015, Locklear received a scholarship prior to the season, and went on to play in all 12 games, catching 7 passes for 75 yards. Over three seasons, he played in 36 games, collecting 12 receptions for 107 yards. Locklear played high school ball right down the road at Apex High.

It’s awesome to see Locklear to get this opportunity.

Locklear is 1 of 6 former NC State football players that are on the Coaching Staff, or Strength and Conditioning Staff.
