NC State Ranks 23rd in the Final Fall Directors’ Cup Standings

NC State is ranked 23rd in the latest Directors’ Cup standings released for the fall. Currently, the Wolfpack ranks 9th in the ACC.

Contributions from Various Teams:

  • The Women’s Cross Country team finished 8th, contributing 70.5 points.
  • The Men’s Soccer team concluded their season in 9th place, contributing 64 points and advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 30 years.
  • The Women’s Volleyball team ended the season in 33rd place, contributing 25 points. This marked their 4th NCAA Tournament appearance and the first since 2017.
  • The Football team finished 53rd, also contributing 25 points.

Year-Over-Year Performance: In the previous year’s final fall standings, NC State ranked 19th. Notable contributions included:

  • The Women’s Cross Country team securing 1st place with 100 points.
  • The Men’s Cross Country team finishing 17th with 57 points.
  • The Football team contributing 53 points with a 21st-place finish.

Comparative Analysis: This fall, the Wolfpack scored 25.5 fewer points than in the fall of 2023. While this year four teams contributed to the score, compared to three last year, the 2023 points were significantly bolstered by a national championship win by the Women’s Cross Country team.

Historical Context and Directors’ Cup Overview: The Directors’ Cup, initiated in the 1993-94 athletic year, aims to measure the performance of collegiate athletic programs. NC State has finished in the Top-25 in the annual final Directors’ Cup standings for four consecutive years. Prior to this streak, NC State had never achieved consecutive top-25 finishes.
