NC State’s Aziaha James’ Behind-the-Back Layup Gets National Attention

With the Wolfpack up by 4 with 2:51 left in the 2nd Overtime, Sophomore Zoe Brooks made a quick outlet pass to Senior Aziaha James, who flew down the court, slipping by Notre Dame’s Olivia Miles with one of the smoothest behind-the-back layups I’ve ever seen, putting a dagger in the #1 team in the land.

James’ highlight garnered national attention, landing at #9 on SportsCenter’s Top-10 yesterday.

Even NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson gave James and the Wolfpack a shoutout.

Aziaha James’s behind-the-back layup was unbelievable as NC State upset #1 Notre Dame in a double overtime classic. 🤯 NC State guard Zoe Brooks led the team with 33 points and 10 rebounds in the 104-95 victory! This has been the best women’s college basketball game this season!

James had 20 points in the contest, marking the 12th time this season she has scored 20+ points in a game. She is averaging 17.8 points per game on the year, and her 1,443 career points rank 20th in NC State history.
