PI Q&A: 5-Star SG Matthew Able Breaks Down His Commitment to NC State

Earlier today, 2025 5-Star Shooting Guard Matthew Able committed and signed with NC State. Able is one of the highest-rated recruits to join the Wolfpack in the past 25 years.

I caught up with Able to discuss his decision to commit to NC State.

What led you to commit to NC State?

Coach Wade and his staff, along with the development plan.

You went on numerous official visits. What made your visit to Raleigh unique compared to the others?

The on campus environment, along with getting to know the coaching staff.

What was compelling about Coach Wade’s pitch? What vision did he lay out for NC State?

How he sees me, and how he thinks I can develop under him, along with how he can help me reach my goals. His vision of letting guards play with freedom, and playing as a team to get lots of wins.

What were the most important factors you were looking for in a school?

Environment, coaching staff, trust, play style, and player development.

With many spots still open on the roster for next year, why are you confident that Coach Wade will fill it with talent?

Coach Wade has a lot of connections and NC State is a great place. I feel like anyone would love it if they go into it with an open mind like I did.

What was your knowledge of NC State before making this decision?

I knew a lot about the basketball side, along with the academic side, and what it takes to be great in that environment.
