On Wednesday, NC State freshman Marie Eline Madsen became the first player in school history to win an NCAA Regional Championship with her 5-under, three-round performance. She is only the second player in program history to advance to the NCAA Championship and the first since Lauren Doughtie in 2008.

The Regional Championship marks her second win of the season, having previously won the ECU Ironwood earlier in the year with a 6-under performance.

In 21 tournaments this year, Madsen has 2 wins, 1 runner-up finish, 11 Top-20 showings, 8 Top-10 finishes, 21 rounds of par or better, and 11 rounds in the 60s.

Madsen claimed her first individual medalist title at the ECU Ironwood with a 6-under 210 (70-71-69).

She leads the Pack with a 70.97 scoring average, which is on pace to be the best single-season average in school history. Lauren Olivares Leon set the school record last year with an average of 72.18.

The freshman phenom earned All-ACC honors this year, becoming the ninth player in school history to do so and the second freshman.

She is currently ranked 75th in the world according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

Madsen will compete in the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California, at the Omni La Costa Golf Course from May 16-18.
