Collins Black has committed to NC State after wrapping up his freshman season with the Blue Devils — and his final season stats don’t tell the whole story.

In eight appearances, he finished with an 8.68 ERA, striking out 18 batters in 9.1 innings.

As rough as that looks, it’s worth noting that most of the damage came in his collegiate debut, when he surrendered six earned runs in just 0.2 innings.

If you take out that one difficult outing, his season stats would look significantly better.

A loner homer against Campbell was his only XBH allowed for the rest of the season.

Black is a local talent, having played for Cary High School. In 2024, Perfect Game ranked him as the #53 overall prospect in North Carolina and the #23 Right-Handed Pitcher in the state.

He becomes the second commitment NC State has picked up from the transfer portal this offseason, joining South Carolina Pitcher Ryder Garino.
