While NC State Football hasn’t released an official injury report, the game notes published this week did reveal some key updates.

Redshirt senior captain linebacker Sean Brown left the Wolfpack’s game against Virginia Tech with a leg injury and is out for Saturday’s matchup with Campbell. As a result, redshirt senior captain Caden Fordham will shift from WILL linebacker to MIKE linebacker to fill Brown’s role. Redshirt junior Kenny Soares, who has been listed as the starting at SAM linebacker (though he technically hasn’t started a game), will slide into Fordham’s usual spot at WILL. Because NC State didn’t release a depth chart this week, it’s unclear who will start at SAM.

The game notes also highlighted how injuries have ravaged the nickelbacks and safeties. Redshirt junior nickel Isaiah Crowell and redshirt senior safety Rente Hinton suffered season-ending injuries in the preseason, while redshirt freshman Jaren Sensabaugh sustained a season-ending injury in the opener against ECU. All three have appeared on the availability report each week, but the extent of their injuries had not been public until now.

To make matters worse, redshirt junior starting nickel Jackson Vick has missed the past two games with an undisclosed injury, and redshirt freshman Asaad Brown has started in his place. Redshirt freshman starting strong safety Brody Barnhardt also left the Virginia Tech game with a leg injury, and his status remains unclear.

On a positive note, head coach Dave Doeren revealed on his radio show that redshirt sophomore linebacker Kelvon McBride will return this weekend against Campbell after missing the first five games of the season due to injury. McBride primarily played on special teams last year but logged 47 of his 80 defensive snaps over the final four games. His PFF grade as a redshirt freshman was an impressive 71.9 in limited action.
