#9 NC State was Fortunate to Beat High Point 77-69 in Exhibition

#9 NC State was fortunate to beat High Point 77-69 in their first Exhibition on Saturday in Reynolds Coliseum.

The Panthers led by 3 at halftime, but the Wolfpack’s 3rd Quarter performance was too much for High Point to overcome.

In the 3rd Quarter, NC State outscored High Point 22-9.

The Wolfpack managed to win a game in which their opponent shot better from the field and behind the three-point line. The Panthers shot 45.2% from the field (NC State – 43.3%), and hit 12 three-pointers (31.6%).

NC State won the game on the offensive glass and at the free-throw line. The Wolfpack’s 13 offensive rebounds led to 15 second chance points, compared to the Panthers’ 3 second-chance points. NC State was 12 of 16 from the charity stripe, while High Point made only 1 of 7.

The Wolfpack’s Guard duo of Zoe Brooks and Zam Jones combined to shoot 5 of 22 from the field. Brooks, who earned 1st Team All-ACC last season, struggled mightily, shooting 1 of 9 from the field. Despite making only 4 of her 13 shots, Jones managed to finish with 12 points. She also led the team with 5 assists and 4 steals.

Sophomore Forward Tilda Trygger, who earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team last season, led the Pack in points and rebounds, posting a double-double of 15 points (6-11 FG) and 12 rebounds. Seven of her rebounds were on the offensive glass.

Junior Guard Qadence Samuels, who transferred to NC State from UCONN this offseason, finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, shooting an efficient 5 of 8 from the field, and 3 of 5 from three.

Senior Forward Khamil Pierre, who played at Vanderbilt last season, had 8 points and 8 boards. Pierre averaged 20.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game, shooting 49.8% from the field for the Commodore’s last season, earning All-American Honorable Mention.

The Wolfpack will play their 2nd Exhibition Game next Sunday against #10 Maryland in Greensboro.
