Deron Rippey Jr. is a 5-Star PG who recently took his official visit to NC State. It was his final visit, and it’s believed he will now trim his list.

While he was taking in the NC State / UAB game, he chatted up NC State legend DJ Burns.

So where does the Pack stand?

Well, prior to the visit, we were getting a pretty confident tone from our sources. Apparently, NC State is checking a lot of the boxes that he and his family are looking for. That includes culture, playing time, location, etc.

But recently, there has been some talk online that NC State and Rippey’s camp aren’t exactly on the same page with money. Now, it’s believed that, like Cole Cloer, NC State’s other high-profile commit, Rippey isn’t dead set on taking the highest offer.

We reached out to Deron Rippey Sr, his father to ask him about those rumors and about the visit.

He told us that Deron Rippey Jr’s decision will have nothing to do with NIL or what other teams have going on, “it’s about feeling comfortable at a new home.”

Now, in the age of NIL it’s unlikely that NIL will have ‘nothing’ to do with it, but we’ll assume his father meant that NIL amount is not going to be the deciding factor.

He also confirmed that there hasn’t been a commitment, and his list of schools will eventually be trimmed, but told us that there is ‘no current timetable’ for that to happen.

After the quote about ‘feeling comfortable at a new home,’ we asked him how they are viewing NC State from that perspective, and he confirmed that they view NC State’s culture, coaching staff, and available role as definite positives.
